IFS FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions linked to IFS
What is IFS and how does it work?
IFS sees the mind as made up of “parts,” each with its own perspective and feelings. Therapy helps you understand and harmonise these parts under the guidance of your compassionate, centred Self.
Who can benefit from IFS therapy?
Anyone wanting to explore their inner world, especially those dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. Clinicians benefit from deepening personal and professional work.
How is IFS different from other therapies?
IFS is structured, client-centred, safe, and gentle. It builds the Self–part relationship and offers practical ways to overcome blocks and promote Self-leadership.
Can IFS be combined with other therapies?
Yes. It integrates well with EMDR, CBT, ACT, mindfulness-based therapies, and Schema Therapy.
How long does IFS therapy take?
It varies—some notice benefits within a few sessions, while others continue over months for more complex issues.
Doing this training, will I be IFS trained?
No. This introductory training is not the formal 14-day Level One training. It provides a solid overview and practical skills to begin using IFS . IFS Institute Trainings
Who can apply for this training?
Mental health professionals registered with a regulatory body.
Will I be able to start using IFS after the training?
Yes, you can start applying it with clients. Consultation with an IFS consultant is recommended to hone skills.
Do I need to visualise to use IFS?
No. Richard Schwartz, the founder, has a “sense” of parts rather than visualising them.
Should I go straight to Level One IFS training?
Not necessarily. Introductory training gives a strong foundation and maximises learning for future Level One training.
